What is Sisterlocks™?Sisterlocks™ is a natural hair management system that allows those with tightly textured hair to take advantage of a wide range of hairstyles without having to alter the natural texture of the hair. Sisterlocks™ create a stable, woven framework in a lock of hair within which the natural interlocking process can take place.
-
Will I need to cut off the relaxed ends of my hair to install Sisterlocks™?No, Sisterlocks™ are installed on the new growth of your hair, plus one inch of your relaxed ends. After your locks have been established, you will style your relaxed ends as you normally do. As your hair grows, the relaxed ends can be trimmed off.
-
How much hair do I need to start Sisterlocks™?Sisterlocks™ can be installed with 1½ - 2 inches of new growth if you have relaxed ends. If you are all-natural, you need 2½ - 3 inches of hair.
-
Should I cut the uneven ends of my hair before I get Sisterlocks™?You should cut your ends if they are damaged, as damaged hair (split ends, brittle ends, knotty ends) may impede the installation and locking processes. If you desire your locks to be in a certain style, (i.e. bob, layers, undercut, tapered, etc.) you should cut your hair into that style before your locks are established.
-
What is included in the Sisterlocks™ Package?Certified Sisterlocks™ Consultants and Official Trainees offer Sisterlocks™ as a package of three visits, which consist of the Consultation, the Locking Session, and a Follow-up Visit.
-
How long does it take to establish and retighten Sisterlocks™?The initial locking process can take twice as long as getting braided/twisted extensions of comparable size, usually between 12 and 36 hours. The length and density of your hair, plus the size of your head determine the time it takes to establish your locks. Locking Sessions may be scheduled over 2 – 3 days. The time it takes to retighten your locks is dependent upon the number of locks you have, your growth rate, and/or the number of weeks since your last retightening appointment. Retightenings are usually between three and five hours at 4 – 6 week intervals.
-
What type of hair texture is best-suited for Sisterlocks™?Any hair with texture---a curl pattern---can be locked. Hair that is fine, with a loose curl pattern will take longer to lock than hair that is coarse and tightly coiled.
-
Will Sisterlocks™ cause my hair to break or thin? No, Sisterlocks™ does not cause breakage or thinning. Consultants use a gentle “weaving” technique that requires no excessive pulling of the hair and no damaging abrasions to the scalp. Because no products such as beeswax or gels are used to hold the locks, the hair and scalp have the ideal environment to regenerate and thrive. With Sisterlocks©, most people experience tremendous hair growth and a healthy scalp.
-
How do I choose a Consultant to install and maintain my Sisterlocks™?A Sisterlocks™ Consultant must be trained in an official Sisterlocks™ Training class taught by a Master Trainer or Certified Training Associate. A list of consultants and trainees can be found at www.sisterlocks.com. Only those consultants and trainees in good standing with the Sisterlocks™ company are listed on the official website.
-
Why do I need a Consultation and how long will it last?Consultations are necessary to ensure the outcome of your service meets your expectations, to share information vital to the success of your Sisterlocks™ journey, to install sample locks, and to discuss pricing. Consultations last approximately one hour.
-
How much does the Sisterlocks™/Brotherlocks™ Package cost? The Sisterlocks™ Package starts at $500 for up to four inches of hair. The Brotherlocks™ Package starts at $400 for up to four inches of hair. Additional charges for high density may apply.
-
How much does a Retightening cost?Total costs for retightening range from $105 - $140 for a 4 – 6 week interval. Rates are per hour and most retightenings take 3 ½ - 4 ½ hours to complete at a 6-week time span. Other things that may alter the customary hourly rate and time to completion are excessive slippage, size of the locks, head size, poor lock separation, failure to shampoo prior to appointment, etc.
-
Can I still change hairstyles once I get Sisterlocks™?Yes! Sisterlocks™ are a lot less limiting than extension because they consist of your natural hair. You can curl, braid, cut, and color Sisterlocks™. You can also wear ponytails, bangs, parts, and spray or mousse them.
-
How can I style my Sisterlocks™?Sisterlocks™ can be styled in the same ways you would wear relaxed hair and/or loose natural hair. They can be roller set, rod set, wrapped, twisted, braided, cornrowed, and flat-twisted. You may also wear up-dos and bantu knots, or achieve texture with twist-outs, braid-outs, and lock knots. Free-style, comparable to the “wash-n-go”, is a timeless alternative. With Sisterlocks©, your styling options are limitless!
-
How often do I shampoo my Sisterlocks™?Shampoo your Sisterlocks™ as often as you shampood your hair before getting locked. Initially, you should braid and band your locks, tucking in the ends. Use the Sisterlocks© Starter Shampoo until your hair is settled. Your hair has settled once the hair strands have become stable within the woven framework of your lock. This process may take as little as two weeks and as much as two years, perhaps more, depending on the texture of your hair. Always “comb” your hair by separating each lock at the root after shampooing.
-
Will I be able to color my hair with Sisterlocks™?You should color your hair before your Sisterlocks™ are established. Haircolor impedes the natural locking process, and should not be used until after the hair is settled.
